How to Change a Vehicle’s PCV Valve
- Locate the PCV valve and loosen the hose clamp if there is one, or pull the little L-shaped housing off the end of the valve.
- Remove the valve.
- Check the hose and the hose clamps or grommet.
- Screw in the new valve.
- Reconnect the hose to the PCV valve.
Is it good to change the PCV valve?
The PCV system removes harmful oil vapors from the engine and prevents them from being released into the atmosphere and control the flow of the vapor from the crankcase to the intake manifold. Replacement is considered a maintenance item, so it’s important to replace the valve regularly.
Can you clean a stuck PCV valve?

Can I clean PCV valve without removing it?
Oftentimes, you’re better off simply replacing the valve which is difficult to clean even when removing it. However, there is one option you can try. While the crankcase tube is disconnected, you can attempt to spray WD-40 down into the tube. Leave the tube up to get the penetrator to the valve, thus cleaning it.
What happens when PCV valve is clogged?
If the PCV valve hose is clogged or has a leak, it may cause poor fuel economy. This is because the vacuum on the intake side of the cylinder head will not be able to properly signal the correct amount of fuel that needs to be fed into the engine and can result in a lean or rich engine condition.
