After graduation, you must live and be employed (if working) in New York State for the number of years you received the scholarship. If you do not meet the residency requirement, it becomes a no-interest loan which you will then be required to pay back. This is a scholarship.
What happens if you fail a class with the Excelsior Scholarship?
If you fail to complete 30 credits over a 365-day period, the Excelsior Scholarship will cover your first term; however, you will be responsible for the tuition liability for your second term. A student who fails to complete 30 credits in any year is ineligible for any future payments under the Program.
